CNN asked him, "What if she's been raped? What if it was incest?"
If Carl Paladino had his way, abortion would be a crime and women would be treated like criminals.

I was born and raised a Catholic and have always believed in the inherent dignity and sanctity of all human life. I believe the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed.

At its core, abortion is a fundamental assault on the sanctity of innocent human life - especially the abhorrent practice of partial birth abortion. I oppose using public revenues to promote or perform abortion and, as Governor, I will not fund organizations which advocate the procedure.

I also support the appointment of judges who respect traditional family values and the sanctity and dignity of innocent human life.

On the other side, Andrew Çuomo is endorsed by Planned Parenthood.

I chose this issue because as a feminist, this topic affects me. No one has the right to tell me what I can or cannot do to my body. The law cannot tell me that I have to keep something that I never wanted, as it violates my amendment rights to privacy.

It is not the killing of a human life, it is called a fetus for a reason because it cannot live outside of the womb unsupported outside the womb.

Pro-choice does not mean pro-abortion. Pro-choice simply means that I am for having options available to people and giving them a chance to choose. Having abortions turn illegal will only make those who seek an abortion to go to any means possible to end the pregnancy.

As one of the top 10 states with the highest concentration of gay people,gay rights has always been an issue on our government . Should people be treated differently because of their sexual desires? This is an important question that must be evaluated to understand which politician to vote for as governor.

A lot of controversy occurred when Andrew Cuomo decided to take his daughters to the gay pride parade. "I don’t think it’s proper for them to go there and watch a couple of grown men grind against each other,"(NY Tiimes ) Paladino believes that Cuomo has “brainwashed his children into thinking that homosexuality” was an acceptable option, "[gay and queer] is not the way God created us.” (Paladino) He believes that Cuomo shouldn't have brought his children to the gay pride parade to see "men in Speedos, grinding and doing things to each other."(Paladino) Paladino attempted to attack Cuomo's parenting however, people began to question Paladino's views on gay rights. Paladino says that his "feelings about homosexuality are no different than those of the Catholic Church." Paladino believes gays have the right to live together but they don't have the right to marry. After all the controversy Paladino began to appear on news broadcasts and radio stations attempting to gain support from gay people. In a public statement of apology Paladino stated that "[he] will reach out to leaders of the gay community to educate me on how to better represent my support for the rights of all citizens. If elected as your governor I will stand and fight for all gay New Yorkers rights."(Paladino) Paladino doesn't shut down the idea of gay rights all together, he just believes that homosexuals shouldn't have the same rights as those who are heterosexual. "All men are created equal." (U.S. Constitution) I guess that only applies to "real" men, those men that are heterosexual. At the Empire State Pride Agenda's Fall Dinner, Cuomo stated that "I don't want to be the governor who just proposes marriage equality. I don't want to be the governor who lobbies for marriage equality. I don't want to be the governor who fights for marriage equality. I want to be the governor who signs the law that makes equality a reality in the state of New York." (NY Daily News) Andrew Cuomo supports gay marriage and with a governor like this maybe equality will come to men soon.

Environment Issues oct. 22, 2010

"Carl Paladino is in favor of drilling the Marcellus Shale deposit for its energy resources" (paladinoforthepeople.com) This makes our environment even more worse. Environment plays a major part in everybody's daily lives and Carl Paladino clearly doesn't take any part to make it better. 


"..any drilling in the Marcellus Shale must be environmentally sensitive and safe." is what Andrew Cuomo said. However, we already had an oil spill, so shouldn't that teach us a lesson. We cannot guarantee that our water supply would not be threatened.

Education

Carl Paladino's stance on education is that a strong education system is needed. He wants to control New York's education system by having " all State Board of Regents members submit to the Governor signed and undated letters of resignation as of January 1, 2011." Science, math and foreign language programs will be increased, and the school year and hours per day of teaching will be extended. More charter schools will be created by lifting the cap of 200 charter schools to a minimum of 500, and the public schools who do not do well will be eradicated and changed into a charter school. The union teachers who do poorly will be fired regardless of the tenure.

Carl Paladino says that he believes that people have the right to bear arms. He said he will try to get a opportunity to roll back on any existing state law that infringes against the right to bear arms.

Teach today- gone tomorrow

Founder of Ellicott Development Company, Paladino comes from a business lifestyle. He believes that the education system should be run in the same aspect as that of Macy's or McDonald's -a business- . "Carl has always given back to his community, supported strong educational leadership and put his money where his mouth is by creating scholarships for those in need. " (Paladino)He wants to "extend the school year and hours per day of teaching. Foreign language instruction will be encouraged, and all schools will increase science and math curriculum to prepare our students to compete in a global economy." (Paladino) He believes that more time needs to be spent in classrooms, a challenging curriculum needs to be generated and pressure put on students and teachers will prepare students for the real world. "Charter schools are the ... alterative to dysfunctional schools " (Paladino) "charters will tackle problems created by dysfunctional homes " (Paladino) Charter schools are a way for people to attend school with children who face the same hardships. By putting children in charter schools, children would have a uniform and they wouldn't be ashamed of their families standing in society. He believes that they need to "eliminate redundancy of administration. "(Paladino) "[Carl] will rescind this law making teachers more attuned to their competency reviews" (Paladino) "Regents Board remove the School Board and Superintendents of all school systems presently achieving a less than 60 percent graduation rate or having more than 25 percent of its schools in any form of academic distress." " (Paladino) Paladino wants to fire teachers and administrators who are not doing their job to their greatest ability. (Paladino) Paladino believes that his plan will enhance our education system and bring about people who are better educated.

"The public school system is failing our children. The first step to fixing it is to create a sense of accountability, a sense that the buck would stop with the mayor." (www.ontheissues.org) He wants to have the control of the school budget system and the public schools itself. . I dislike this plan because schools like Leon M. Goldstein HS will receive less money which will effect the students education since he wants to control the budget system.

 What Cuomo is saying is that he will basically help out the New York City that really need the help, for example he wants to get teachers that have more experience in teaching.

Jobs - Oct. 20th, 2010

Andrew Cuomo wants to cap taxes and create government programs that will generate jobs. People will be trained, infrastructure will be improved upon or created, and there will be reduced or eliminated taxes for businesses. He states that "with a focus on on aiding business owners, retaining and creating employment opportunities, and investing in higher education, we will get New Yorkers back to work." (andrewcuomo.com) Cuomo is therefore stimulating the economy by spending more government money to help the people.

Carl Paladino states that "if we simply cut Medicaid down to California levels - still far above the national average - taxpayers can realize 40%-plus cut in taxes." (paladinoforthepeople.com) If he "cut taxes by 10%, cut state spending by 20%," then in turn, businesses can perhaps hire more people. (paladinoforthepeople.com) He is therefore cutting spending to give people more money to use and spend.

Ultimately, I agree with Andrew Cuomo, because he is directly presenting jobs to people and creating more opportunities through his programs by training people. Carl Paladino is allowing people to save money, but that doesn't mean that the ones with the extra money will save it in a bank or spend the money.

Jobless today - employed tomorrow?

          Even though Wall Street was brought down more than 2 years ago, New York State is still suffering from a severe rate of unemployment. Our lack of taxation has limited the spending of our government in our community. Employment has become an important issue in this gubernatorial election. 

Paladino believes that there must be reforms to help get New York back to work force. He states that  people on unemployment will have to join the dignity corps.”The Dignity Corps will offer a comprehensive program of support for job seekers including training, development, work experience and mentoring.” (Paladino) He also believes that unemployment must be tackled by creating tax cuts. Paladino  states “The cuts will also help fuel the economic boom we need to save our State from insolvency.” (Paladino) Paladino believes that cutting taxes will boom the economy by getting more people into the work force. Since businesses will have less taxes to pay, businesses will have more money to spend in hiring people. 

On the other side of the spectrum we see Andrew Cuomo who believes that the government should create jobs. He states that "the problem of high unemployment will be immediately addressed by enacting an emergency tax credit for hiring unemployed New Yorkers."(Cuomo) He believes that it is the governments task to create jobs for the people by devising a plan to rebuild infrastructure. Cuomo also believes that "Businesses will not create jobs in New York if they do not believe that New York State government will rein in spending and hold the line on taxes." (Cuomo) Cuomo believes that putting a cap on taxes will allow businesses to put their faith into the NY government and be able to plan out their budgets thus businesses will be capable of hiring more employs. 

        Both Carl Paladino and Andrew Cuomo have different views on how to address the high rate of unemployment in New York State. Each candidate has a different solution to the same problem however, the question as to which solution will work comes down to the execution of their tactic.  Paladino's plan to lower taxes, train people and fuel the economy by giving businesses the chance to hire more employs is an idea that will greatly help those families who are currently struggling to make ends meet with  one parent working.  His plan will help bring New Yorker's back on their feet and help stimulate the economy at a faster rate.

Andrew Cuomo wants to "Get New Yorkers back to work immediately, through a “Jobs Now” tax credit of up to $3,000 for businesses that hire new workers who have been unemployed for at least sixty days."  (andrewcuomo.com) This way people that are unemployed have the opportunity to get a job.


Carl Paladino  wants to cut taxes this way the businesses will hire more people for jobs. The more things you cut the more jobs can be created. "Capping taxes is gutless; cutting taxes takes courage. I will cut taxes." (paladinoforthepeople/com) Here he goes against Andrew Cuomo idea and states that cutting taxes is the only way to create more new/more jobs.


I believe Andrew Cuomo has a better plan because his idea is creating new jobs by not cutting taxes. Cutting spendings effects schools, businesses, and the economy itself and Andrew Cuomo is not for that.

NY upside down and backward

"New York State is upside down and backwards; high taxes and low performance. The New York State government was at one time a national model. Now, unfortunately, it's a national disgrace. Sometimes, the corruption in Albany could even make Boss Tweed blush. " (Andrew Cuomo) Andrew Cuomo understands that in our present standing /situation, New York is full of problems. He understand s that if he becomes governor he will have to bring a great deal of change. He will have to fight corruption, increase the performance of students (Hopefully not by making the tests easier) in schools, and work to create a safer New York. My vote goes to Andrew Cuomo for governor because we sure need a man who can realize a problem and draw up a plan in which he attacks the problems at hand in a coherent manner.
